Meeting Summary:
The School Mental Health Advisory Council met on June 5th, 2024 about Mental Health Resources and training updates.There is a new director, Renee Rider and she introduced herself and talked about the overview of efforts to increase outreach and offer back to school information to Educators and Families. They are also offering a summer Academy virtually on August 20-21st.They have a School Mental Health Resource and Training Center with tools and information that schools need to educate students about mental health,from instructional resources, to staff development, and information for families. Scholarship Opportunity for $2,500:
The Mental Health Association in New York State, inc. is offering The Sylvia Lask Scholarship for is open to juniors, seniors, and matriculated graduate students attending school in New York State and majoring in a mental health-related field to prepare for a career in mental health. You must be a New York State resident and demonstrate financial need. One individual scholarship will be awarded for tuition in the amount of $2,500, plus travel expenses up to $200 for the scholarship winner to attend MHANYS Annual Awards Dinner in October 2024. School Mental Health Training Center
“The Mental Health Association in New York State, Inc. (MHANYS) has established the School Mental Health Resource and Training Center to support all NYS public and private schools to implement Chapter 390 of the Laws of 2016, requiring mental health instruction as part of the K-12 health curricula. The Center staff and project partners are committed to helping schools.”
