About the Conference
School social workers are poised to play an integral role in the positive academic outcomes of children, but what kind of resources, training, and tools does it take? The 2018 School Social Work Conference, now in its fourth year, will examine how social workers who are also social justice leaders can have an impact at the individual, community, and political levels, both inside and outside the school system.
This year’s conference opens with a keynote address by Dr. Kenneth Hardy(see below) on “Tips and Tactics for Talking about Race,” after which it offers a series of workshops that take a critical look at the disparities in education in New York City, how race and class play a role in our work, and what tools we need to navigate these multi-layered issues and systems and affect change. There will also be an afternoon plenary led by Brittany Brathwaite (bio) of Girls for Gender Equity.
